The EATC will feature keynotes from Jaguar Land Rover, Porsche, Scania, Stadler Rail, GKN Aerospace, Valeo, Voith, Magna Steyr, and MAN Truck & Bus. Additionally the 2014 conference agenda will contain about 100 technical presentations from various industries, highlighting topics such as Lightweight Design, Lead Time Reduction, Crash & Safety as well as Impact Simulation, Multiphysics & CFD, Design for Additive Manufacturing, System Simulation, Architectural Design, and Noise & Vibration. Participation in the conference is free of charge. Interested parties are, however, requested to register on the conference website. >> European COMSOL Conference 2014 held September 17 - 19 in Cambridge, UKIn addition to the European Conference in Cambridge other events of the series of conferences will be held in Boston, Curitiba, Bangalore, Shanghai, Beijing, Taipei, Seoul and Tokyo. The worldwide COMSOL Conferences each year attract more than 2,000 participants. The conference series whose main focus is on the modern, multi-disciplinary, multi-physics simulation techniques, offers participants keynote lectures by leading industrial companies and numerous user presentations and several hands-on mini-courses. In addition, participants have the opportunity to exchange directly with the developers of COMSOL Multiphysics ®. >> 13th LS-DYNA Forum 2014 held 6 - 8 October 2014 in Bamberg, GermanyDYNAmore GmbH invites to its German User Meeting held in Bamberg, Germany, October 6 - 8, 2014. This year’s event will be expanded by a half-day LS-DYNA Developer Forum. The central part of the event, however, remains the two-day user forum. Over 300 participants attended the last User Forum. In 81 lectures and in a hardware and software exhibition they could gather information on applications, developments, trends, hardware and accessories products around LS-DYNA and LS-OPT. The comprehensive information provided the possibility for an exchange of knowledge and experience and the opportunity for discussion and makes the German LS-DYNA Forum an event worth participating. >> ![]() Optimus release introduces new Particle Swarm OptimizationOptimus 10.14 introduces a new Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm that can be used for both single-objective and multi-objective optimization. The new algorithm is inspired by swarm intelligence typically found in animal flocks, fish schools and ant colonies. All swarm individuals continuously adjust their positions by making compromises between the ‘local best positions’ pursued by the individuals and the ‘global best positions’ indicated by the entire flock. The new PSO algorithm efficiently handles high-dimensional optimization challenges, supports parallel execution of experiments, and delivers a highly accurate optimal design point or Pareto front. When processing time is most critical, the PSO algorithm is able to match the results of existing genetic and evolutionary algorithms using far less experiments. Additionally, this new Optimus algorithm is extremely easy and robust to use, both for single-objective and multi-objective optimization applications. >> Forming Technologies releases FormingSuite 2014 and FTI CATIA V5-Based SoftwareForming Technologies Inc. announced the release of FormingSuite 2014 and FTI CATIA V5-Based software. Aimed at all sheet metal forming and costing engineers, designers, and estimators in the automotive and other industries, the main objective of FormingSuite 2014 and FTI CATIA V5-Based software is to introduce new leading edge technology to stamping simulation and to provide continuous improvement to all users in a unified collaborative environment. This new release delivers major productivity and usability gains and allows companies to spend more time on knowledge-centric tasks that win new business and more efficiently execute existing projects. "FormingSuite 2014 and FTI CATIA V5-Based software is the classic example of developers listening to what the users want and need, and making that a reality” said Dan Marinac, FTI Director Business Development. >> Human Solutions introduces RAMSIS NextGenRAMSIS is the world’s leading ergonomics tool for the automotive industry when it comes to customizing the interior of vehicles to match the requirements of the driver and passengers as closely as possible. RAMSIS NextGen provides flexibility, efficiency and a better representation of the population. The user gets results faster thanks to the parallel study of several human models (manikins). Body shapes of the models have been improved on the basis of real, three-dimensional scans and graphical visualization options have also been expanded. The reusability of data and the better operability of RAMSIS NextGen lead to a much more efficient process. >> ![]() Terence J. Rhoades, President of Mechanical Simulation Corporation, honored with SAE International Medal of HonorMr. Terence J. Rhoades, President of Mechanical Simulation Corporation, is the recipient of the 2014 SAE International Medal of Honor. The Medal of Honor, established in 1986, is presented annually and is SAE International’s most prestigious award. The award recognizes an SAE International member for his or her unique and significant contributions to SAE International and is funded through the SAE Foundation. Mr. Rhoades has served as President of Mechanical Simulation Corporation since 2004. Mechanical Simulation develops and distributes vehicle dynamics simulation software under the trade names CarSim, TruckSim, BikeSim, and SuspensionSim. >> Simufact grows and moves into new office buildingAt the end of April Simufact moved into a new office building on Tempowerkring 19 at the hit-Technopark in Hamburg. The new premises offer 880 square meters spread over two floors, with spacious and modernly equipped offices. “We are glad to have found new office space that gives us the opportunity to expand within the hit Technopark”, said Michael Wohlmuth, Managing Director of Simufact. “Therefore, we can continue to profit from the Technoparks' excellent infrastructure. The significant office space expansion provides a new perspective for further growth in the coming years”. >> Vehicle Dynamics International Magazine awards Driver in Motion as Development Tool of the Year 2014VI-grade, provider of best-in-class software products and services for advanced applications in the field of system-level simulation, announced that Driver-in-Motion (DiM), the new motion platform developed by VI-grade and Saginomiya, has been awarded “Development Tool of the Year 2014” by the Vehicle Dynamics International magazine. The prestigious award has been assigned to DiM out of a short list of five finalists through a voting process undergone by an international and independent judging panel composed by 27 automotive professionals from 19 countries. >> |
![]() TECOSIM develops simulation process for acoustic assessment of sloshing noise in fuel tanksAcoustics in the vehicle interior has steadily improved in recent years. Occupants are becoming less burdened by engine, wind or tire noise. But while their roar and whistle has been reduced other sounds receive more awareness. This includes the noises generated by contents sloshing in tanks. Even in a conventional vehicle these noises are sometimes heard when the gasoline beats against the wall of the tank during starting or holding. Occupants of vehicles with start-stop function or hybrid drive will realize these noises much more due to reduced or eliminated engine sounds. TECOSIM has been intensively working on this subject within a public funded research project and has developed an approach for the optimization of tank structures and built-in obstacles. New seminar on Robust Design in car body development at carhs.trainingThe aim of the seminar is to enable designs engineers to take uncertainties into account and to assess the robustness of their design regarding the functional requirements within their virtual development process. All loading and design variables of a product are subject to variations. Nevertheless, it must be ensured that a design is satisfactory not only for a combination of ideal values but also when taking into account variations of parameters. The fulfillment of this development objective is called Robust Design. To provide the knowledge necessary for this job first the theory is explained in the seminar using examples from practice. Then, methods are presented that are adapted to the special requirements of car body development. To this end, examples of crash, NVH and other disciplines are considered. Prof. Dr. Fabian Duddeck (Technical University of Munich), the lecturer of the seminar, is working on optimization and robustness since many years.
