These updates deliver enhanced performance, new functionalities, and broader compatibility, further strengthening VI-grade's commitment to supporting its customers in creating better virtual prototypes and accelerating vehicle development cycles. >>Multiphysics Modeling and Standalone Simulation Apps Drive InnovationMultiphysics modeling and simulation helps organizations innovate faster, smarter, and at lower cost. Incorporating the COMSOL Multiphysics® software into the R&D workflow enables engineering teams to build accurate models of real-world designs, devices, and processes as well as create their own standalone simulation apps to spread the benefits of multiphysics modeling to more teams, departments, and customers. This ultimately leads to a stronger understanding of product behavior and quicker answers during the development cycle. >>CarMaker as an Integration Platform for Virtual ECUs (vECUs)The vehicle architecture comprises a large number of electrical control units that are interconnected in a distributed network. Among other things, this network controls safety and driver assistance systems. As vehicle automation progresses, the complexity of the ECU network is increasing, leading to greater testing and validation effort. On the other hand, the aim is to shorten development times, which is at odds with maintaining or even increasing test coverage. >>Norbert Hanke Appointed Interim President and CEO of Hexagon ABThe Board of Directors of Hexagon AB has appointed Norbert Hanke as interim President and Chief Executive Officer of Hexagon AB. Norbert Hanke assumes his position with immediate effect. Norbert joined Hexagon in 2001, most recently serving as Hexagon s COO (Chief Operating Officer) and prior to that as Hexagon s Manufacturing Intelligence division president for over 10 years. >>VIRTUAL VEHICLE and JOANNEUM RESEARCH: Long-term Financing through New Research GroupJOANNEUM RESEARCH has been a shareholder and strategic partner of the VIRTUAL VEHICLE since it was founded. This partnership is now being significantly expanded with the acquisition of 50.1 % of the company shares by JOANNEUM RESEARCH. The industrial companies AVL List, Magna Steyr, Siemens Mobility, Infineon and voestalpine, which are important for the VIRTUAL VEHICLE, as well as Graz University of Technology, will remain on board as shareholders and see this as a significant increase in synergies and a sustainable strengthening of the mobility location. >>Cent for Cent for Good: invenio Employees Donate Salary Decimal PlacesMaking a big difference with small amounts - this year, the employees of engineering and technology partner invenio have once again succeeded in doing just that! Since the initiative of an employee in 2015, the decimal places of the salary of all participating employees have been collected for a good cause every month for one year. The employees then submit suggestions each year as to which charitable organization should receive the donation and vote for it in a survey. >> |
Survey Identifies the Current, Critical Challenges of automotive CAE - Call for Papers for the automotive CAE Grand Challenge 2025In preparation for the conference, we have identified the current, critical challenges of automotive CAE through a survey among the CAE experts in the international automotive industry. At the conference, one session will be dedicated to each of the 7 most critical challenges, the so-called "Grand Challenges". read more ... Seminar: Virtual Testing for Vehicle Safety Assessment in Consumer Protection Tests and RegulationsVehicle type approval based on virtual test procedures has been possible for some time for a limited number of specific regulations in automotive safety. However, there have been very few real applications so far. Currently the increasing demands of consumer protection organizations are leading to a noticeable acceleration in the development and acceptance of procedures for virtual testing as an alternative or supplement to physical testing. There are also corresponding efforts by legislators to implement virtual test procedures in new regulations for the assessment of vehicle safety. The trainer Andre Eggers has been a research associate at the German Federal Highway Research Institute since 2006 and works in the fields of biomechanics, evaluation of dummies, human models and virtual testing. read more ... Siemens Acquires Altair EngineeringSiemens has signed an agreement to acquire Altair Engineering Inc., a leading provider of software in the industrial simulation and analysis market. Altair shareholders will receive USD 113 per share, representing an enterprise value of approximately USD 10 billion. With this acquisition Siemens strengthens its position as a leading technology company and its leadership in industrial software.

However, in real life, deviations during manufacture or operation can cause imperfections which have an impact on a structure's behavior. It is important to include and evaluate the effects of these imperfections. TECOSIM developed a process that allows automatic updating of finite element simulation models based on image data as part of the Add2Reliablade research project funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action.

Documenting the changes to the simulated vehicle models is particularly time-consuming and costly. The SAFECAR-ML project aims to simplify this process. By combining novel methods of artificial intelligence (AI) with technical knowledge from vehicle development, the project partners from Fraunhofer SCAI and the automotive industry want to standardize the processing of information for the documentation of virtual crash tests.

Meshing Strategies for Explicit SimulationsUsing a drop-test simulation, CADFEM wants to show that it is not always necessary to defeature the CAD model in a time-consuming manner, because Ansys offers efficient meshing strategies for explicit simulations. Although often frowned upon for historical reasons, tetrahedron elements and in particular quadratic tetrahedron elements can be the solution for thin-walled, complex components.

Replicating them accurately requires to develop a model, understand the environment, assume the movement and understand the controlling forces and interdependent elements. The efficiency of a process often depends on various factors like - airflow, droplet motion, and the behavior of paint settling on surfaces. Using a single solver to model such a process accurately is nearly impossible. That's why hybridization, the coupling of multiple solvers, is so important.
