Four luxury and two nonluxury midsize cars earn a superior rating for their pedestrian crash prevention systems, while four nonluxury cars earn only a basic rating or no credit. Another six cars earn an advanced rating.

Actions from federal and state agencies and bicyclists themselves are needed to lower the number of crashes between motor vehicles and bicycles said the National Transportation Safety Board. In the NTSB’s first examination of bicyclist safety on U.S. roadways since its last report on this topic in 1972, the agency said critical changes were needed to address the recent rise in fatal bicycle crashes involving motor vehicles, even as overall traffic deaths fell in 2018.

Machine Learning based Smart Cruise Control (SCC-ML) is a technology that incorporates the driver’s patterns into its self-driving behavior, creating a custom experience for the driver. The technology, an industry first, incorporates artificial intelligence (AI) within the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) feature. The system is planned for implementation in future Hyundai Motor Group vehicles.

Results for the four models tested range from three stars to a single star for adult occupant protection. The National Transportation Safety Board calles for new national requirements for seating and seat belt systems on limousines, citing evidence gathered in investigations of accidents in New York, Illinois and New Jersey. The NTSB’s Safety Recommendation Report recommended that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration require lap/shoulder belts for each passenger seating position on all new vehicles modified to be used as limousines.
