 TOI calls for Crash Protection for Bus Drivers StandardA separate European standard for crash safety in buses should be developed, according to TØI researchers in a new report. NXP Semiconductors N.V. announced the investment in and collaboration with Zendar Inc., a software start-up dedicated to revolutionizing autonomous vehicle systems with high-resolution radar. The investment aims to accelerate and improve high-resolution radar solutions for autonomous driving (AD) and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) to complement NXP s leading scalable radar portfolio.
With a view to accelerating digital transition and smarter mobility in the EU, the Council adopted a new framework on the deployment of intelligent transport systems (ITS) by revising the 2010 directive. The revised directive aims to take account of technological developments, such as connected and automated mobility, on-demand mobility applications, and multimodal transport.

Anritsu Corporation, in collaboration with dSPACE, has developed an advanced digital twin simulation environment designed to provide improved protection for vulnerable road users (VRU). At 5GAA the two companies demonstrates a road safety use case using the C-V2X 5G network for cooperative communications. Vulnerable road users include pedestrians, and bicycles, among others, and there is growing global interest in using C-V2X technologies to prevent accidents with vehicles.

The EU has pledged to achieve zero road fatalities by 2050. However, as traffic levels recovered following the pandemic, road deaths in 2022 rose by 3 % on the previous year and progress on road safety has been slow. CAVs could help to significantly reduce the incidence of serious injuries and fatalities.
