IIHS alters Scoring for latest Moderate Overlap Front Crash TestThe Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is rolling out new scoring criteria for its updated moderate overlap front crash test to better account for variations in the position of the rear shoulder belt.
A new metric called the chest index factors in both the position of the shoulder belt on the rear dummy's chest and chest compression.

IIHS Award Criteria get tougher in 2024The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety is making it harder to earn its TOP SAFETY PICK and TOP SAFETY PICK+ awards in 2024, challenging manufacturers to offer better protection for back seat passengers and improve their pedestrian crash avoidance systems.
Despite the more stringent requirements, 71 models qualify for 2024 awards. Of those, 22 earn TOP SAFETY PICK+, and 49 earn TOP SAFETY PICK.
