TNCAP Edition 2 approved

On May 22, 2024, the Ministry of Transportation approved the second edition of the Taiwan New Car Assessment Program (TNCAP) . Starting from 2026, the safety assessment of new cars in the Republic of China (Taiwan) will be conducted in accordance with these protocals. In order to keep in line with the international new car safety assessment standards and develop localized assessment projects, TNCAP edition 2 continued to introduce the new version of the Euro NCAP assessment standards.

Large SUVs struggle in IIHS Tests

article imageFor drivers of large SUVs, their imposing size comes with a sense of security. But some models are safer than others, new ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety show. The Jeep Wagoneer is the only model out of three popular large SUVs tested to qualify for a 2024 TOP SAFETY PICK award. Other bestsellers, the Chevrolet Tahoe and Ford Expedition, fell short for multiple reasons, including subpar performance in the small overlap front crash test. More than 90 % of new models have sailed through this evaluation with good ratings since 2021.

Autoliv introduces Airbags made with 100 % recycled Polyester

article imageAutoliv continues its journey to a sustainable future by introducing airbag cushions made of 100 % recycled polyester which significantly reduce the greenhouse gas (GHG) footprint of airbags. In collaboration with key supply chain partners, Autoliv has developed yarns, fabrics, and cushions made from 100 % recycled polyester for use in airbag production. The completed testing of the new material demonstrates that the airbag cushion provides equal safety functionality to a standard polyester airbag while reducing GHG emissions by approximately 50 % at the polymer level.

Skoda Auto launches State-of-the-art Simulation Centre for advanced Vehicle Testing

STMicroelectronics reveals monolithic Automotive Synchronous Buck Converters for light-load, low-noise, and isolated Applications

article imageSTMicroelectronics has introduced new automotive-qualified step-down synchronous DC/DC converters that save space and ease integration in applications including body electronics, audio systems, and inverter gate drivers. The A6983 converters offer flexible design choices, comprising six non-isolated step-down converters in low-consumption and low-noise configurations and the A6983I isolated buck converter. With compensation circuitry on-chip, these highly integrated monolithic devices need only minimal external components including filtering, feedback, and a transformer with the A6983I.

Drivers are open to Anti-speeding Tech

article imageMore than 60 % of drivers would find it acceptable if their vehicle provided an audible and visual warning when they exceeded the posted speed limit, a new survey from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety shows. Perhaps more surprisingly, about half of drivers say they wouldn't mind vehicle technology that makes the accelerator pedal harder to press or automatically restricts speed.

NHTSA estimates Traffic Fatalities continued to decline in first Quarter of 2024

article imageThe National Highway Traffic Safety Administration released its first projections for traffic fatalities in 2024, estimating that 8,650 people died in traffic crashes in the first three months of the year. This represents a decrease of about 3.2 % as compared to 8,935 estimated fatalities during the same period in 2023.
