ZF LIFETEC enhances Occupant Protection through innovative Test MethodsWhen accelerations of more than 50 g tug at dummies, test sleds are accelerated from zero to one hundred in an instant to generate data and to validate new designs and products with physical and virtual tests, and steering wheels, seat belts and even airbags are tortured in endurance testing equipment, it doesn't necessarily sound safe - but it does ensure greater safety. At least when the tests take place in one of the more than 20 test centers or in the three central ZF LIFETEC Tech Centers in Europe, North America and Asia.

Testing begins for Euro NCAP's new Truck Safe RatingThe first scheme of its type for the sector, the programme is designed to address the disproportionate number of truck fatalities across Europe where trucks represent only 3 % of vehicles on Europe s roads but are involved in almost 15 % of all EU road fatalities. The ratings will incentivise good safety performance, allow optimisation of operational safety and cost, and accelerate regulatory efforts to improve truck safety. The aim is to progress towards best practice safety, rather than just meeting minimum standards.

Latest vehicles are highly technologically advanced and now incorporate more ADAS features than ever before as standard, to support the driver, yet a JLR survey found 41 per cent of respondents are not clear what their ADAS systems do.

NHTSA estimates Traffic Fatalities declined in the first Half of 2024The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration released its early estimates of traffic fatalities for the first half of 2024, estimating that traffic fatalities declined for the ninth straight quarter. An estimated 18,720 people died in motor vehicle traffic crashes, a decrease of about 3.2 % as compared to 19,330 fatalities projected to have occurred in the first half of 2023. Fatalities declined in both the first and second quarters of 2024.
