Siemens wants to acquire Altair Engineering

Siemens has signed an agreement to acquire Altair Engineering Inc. Altair shareholders will receive USD 113 per share, representing an enterprise value of approximately USD 10 billion. The offer price represents a 19 % premium to Altair's unaffected closing price on October 21, 2024. With this acquisition Siemens strengthens its position as a leading technology company and its leadership in industrial software.

VERSES and Volvo Cars demonstrate Pedestrian Vehicle Safety Advancement

Multimode damped Piezoresistive Accelerometer for ATD and Crash

Finite Element Modeling of the Seat Evaluation Tools (SETs)

article imageThe Seat Evaluation Tools (SETs) FE models were presented at the IRCOBI Conference 2024 in Sweden. Development of the first version of the SET 50F and 50M models was done for the FE code LS-DYNA (ANSYS). The key features of the SETs are; an articulated spine, flexible shoulders and a biofidelic body surface contour that closely matches that of the corresponding HBM, VIVA+. The FE SET models are being developed to obtain a close fidelity of virtual response to the hardware SET responses.

AAA Research reveals Safety Progress in today's AEB Technology

article imageAAA's latest research found that new (2024) model vehicles with AEB avoided 100 % of forward collisions when tested at speeds up to 35 mph, in comparison to old (2017 - 2018) model vehicles, which only avoided collisions 51 % of the time.

New Infrared Camera aims to enhance Safety in Autonomous Driving

article imageA team from Fraunhofer IOF has therefore set themselves the goal to develop a thermal imaging camera for road traffic applications. The result is a novel infrared camera that operates in the wavelength range of 8 to 14 micrometers - precisely the same range in which thermal radiation emitted by humans is found, both day and night. Additionally, the researchers have succeeded in realizing this technology in a particularly cost-effective yet powerful manner.

Four Vehicles fall short in IIHS Tests

article imageFour vehicles from four different brands fall short in one or more tests required for a 2024 TOP SAFETY PICK or TOP SAFETY PICK+ award in the latest ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. The 2025 Kia Sorento qualifies for TOP SAFETY PICK, retaining the status earned by the 2024 model. However, it misses out on the "plus" due to a marginal rating in the updated moderate overlap front test.

Preemies: Anthropometry and Body Shape Models
