Physical AI is unlocking new possibilities at the intersection of autonomy and robotics - accelerating, in particular, the development of autonomous vehicles. The right technology and frameworks are crucial to ensuring the safety of drivers, passengers and pedestrians.
Volvo Cars is using AI-generated life-like virtual worlds to enhance the development of its safety software, such as driver assistance systems, all with the aim of creating even safer cars. We can now synthesise incident data collected by the advanced sensors in our new cars, such as emergency braking, sharp steering or manual intervention. This allows us to probe, reconstruct and explore them in new ways to better understand how incidents can be avoided.

The Automated Vehicle Safety Consortium (AVSC) is excited to announce the publication of the AVSC Best Practice for Automated Driving System-Dedicated Vehicles (ADS-DVs) Immediate Post-Crash Behaviors and Interactions. This document provides essential guidance on the behaviors and interactions of ADS-DVs immediately following a crash. It presents a structured framework for behaviors and actions undertaken by the ADS-DV and is demonstrated through three example scenarios highlighting dependencies that may influence these interactions.
The New Car Assessment Programme for Latin America and the Caribbean, Latin NCAP, publishes the first crash tests results for 2025 with a five star result for the Nissan New Kicks. The New Kicks that offers 6 airbags, ESC and ADAS technologies as standard, achieved 90.32 % in Adult Occupant, 91.84 % in Child Occupant, 75.60 % in Pedestrian Protection and Vulnerable Road Users and 85.17 % in Safety Assist.

3,304 people walking in the United States in the first half of 2024 died in traffic accidents, down 2.6 % from the year before, according to a new analysis from the Governors Highway Safety Association. While that's 88 fewer fatalities than during the first six months of 2023, it represents a staggering 1,072 more pedestrian deaths than in 2014.
